Rita Rolo Morais made her house debut at Theater Aachen in May 2025, where she performed the Title Role (Der Kater) in Xavier Montsalvatge’s Der Gestiefelte Kater.
The young Portuguese soprano started her 2025/26 season performing the Title Role in Luigi Mancia’s La Partenope at the WDR Funkhaus, with the Kairos Orchestra, conducted by Kai Wessel, in September 2025.
In 2024, she debuted as Pamina and Papagena in Die kleine Zauberflöte, and as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, with the Kölner Opernkiste, both in shortened versions, adapted for children.
Rita has graduated with honors from the HfMT Köln, Germany, obtaining her Master's degree in Musiktheater (Opera) with Prof. Gideon Poppe. At the HfMT Köln she performed roles such as Berenice in Cesti’s Il Tito and Olimpia in Cimarosa’s Le Trame deluse. While at home on the opera stage, she is equally passionate about ensemble performance and the intimate world of Lied. She is currently deepening this passion through a second Master’s degree in Liedgestaltung at the HfMT Hamburg, studying with Prof. Michaela Kaune and Prof. Burkhard Kehring.
In May 2026, the soprano was awarded the Sonderpreis der Gustavo-Mahler-Vereinigung at the Gustav Mahler-Liedwettbewerb at the HfMT Hamburg, together with pianist João Sousa. In January 2025, she won 1st Prize at the LiedDuo Wettbewerb of the HfMT Köln, together pianist Gavin Liang May.
A passionate recitalist, Rita collaborates regularly with different pianists and has sung Lied Recitals at the Haydn Festival Brühl, Hamburger Kunsthalle, Koblenzer Kammerkonzerte. She also collaborates with pianist Kewen Wang, with whom she is a scholarship holder of the Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Stiftung. In Portugal, she worked closely with pianist Marta Silva as a LiedDuo, with whom she co-created the project De uma perspetiva feminina (From a Female Perspective), a Recital of Art Songs, all composed by women, which they have performed throughout Portugal over the last years. As a LiedDuo they have attended workshops and masterclasses such as Lied the Way, with Anne le Bozec and Pauliina Tukiainen, and Projeto Canção with João Paulo Santos.
Since 2022, she has been a member of the Cantus Portugueses Ensemble, which focuses on the promotion and interpretation of traditional Portuguese music and is based in Cologne.
Throughout her musical career, Rita has participated in numerous masterclasses and worked with renowned artists such as Juliane Banse, François Le Roux, Anne le Bozec, Pauliina Tukiainen, Pedro Costa, João Paulo Santos, Caroline Stein, Olaf Bär, Ulrike Sonntag, Luís Rendas Pereira, Sara Braga Simões and Marina Viotti.
She completed her Bachelor's degree in Voice at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE) in Porto, Portugal, with Prof. Rui Taveira, graduating with distinction. The Portuguese soprano discovered her passion for music early, beginning her violin studies at the age of six, before fully dedicating her musical studies to singing at age fifteen.
Rita has received support from the GDA Foundation and is a scholarship holder of the Werner Richard - Dr. Carl-Dörken Stiftung and Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Hamburg.
